Abstract

This study is an investigation of the influence of the mass media on electorate’s participation in the 2021 Anambra State gubernatorial election in the wake of insecurity in Anambra State. This study was underpinned by the agenda-setting theory. The survey research approach was employed. The findings revealed that the mass media made efforts to influence electoral participation in the Anambra 2021 election. However, factors like fear of insecurity, loss of interest in the electoral process as well as INEC factors discouraged electoral participation in the election. It was recommended that the mass media should intensify efforts in promoting political education through campaigns so that most people will become more aware of the need to participate in an election, irrespective of any challenge that may arise.
